Practical Electronics Engineering Support

Electronics development rarely goes exactly to plan.

A design can look perfectly good on paper and still develop problems during testing. A small component choice can create unexpected EMC issues. A PCB layout decision can affect signal quality, reliability or manufacturability. And sometimes a project simply needs another experienced engineer to review the design and identify problems before they become expensive.

This is where I can help.

At ElectronPath, I provide practical electronics engineering consultancy and design support to companies that need additional technical expertise, whether that means reviewing an existing design, troubleshooting a difficult problem or supporting the development of a new product.

My approach comes from years of hands-on experience in electronics engineering, product development, EMC testing and engineering project delivery. I have worked on electronics from both sides of the process: developing products and investigating what happens when a design does not behave as expected.

That experience has taught me that good engineering is not only about making something work. It is about understanding why it works, how it might fail and how it can be improved.

How ElectronPath Can Help

PCB and Schematic Design Reviews

Sometimes one of the most valuable things you can do before manufacturing a PCB is have another engineer look at it.

I review schematics and PCB designs with a practical engineering perspective, looking for potential issues with component selection, power supplies, interfaces, protection, grounding, layout, signal routing and general design robustness.

The objective is simple: find problems while they are still inexpensive to fix.

A design review can be particularly useful before committing to a prototype build, moving towards production or when an existing design is experiencing unexplained problems.

EMC Troubleshooting

EMC problems can be some of the most frustrating issues in electronics development.

A product may work perfectly on the bench and then fail during formal EMC testing. Finding the real source of the problem requires more than simply adding filters or ferrites until the test passes.

My background includes hands-on EMC laboratory experience as well as electronics product development, which helps me approach EMC problems from both a testing and design perspective.

I can help investigate emissions and immunity problems, review PCB layout and grounding strategies, identify likely coupling paths and recommend practical design changes to improve EMC performance.

The aim is not just to pass a test, but to understand what is happening electrically and why.

Signal Integrity and Hardware Troubleshooting

Modern electronics often combine digital communication, analogue signals, switching power supplies, sensors and microcontrollers on the same PCB.

When something behaves intermittently or does not perform as expected, finding the cause can quickly become time-consuming.

I can support investigations involving signal integrity, communications interfaces, power integrity, noise, grounding and general hardware troubleshooting.

This may involve reviewing the design, analysing measurements or helping develop a structured testing strategy to isolate the problem.

Embedded Hardware and Electronics Product Development

I can also support companies developing new electronic products or modifying existing ones.

This can include early design discussions, architecture and component selection, schematic development, PCB design support, prototype evaluation, testing, technical documentation and design improvements.

For me, product development is about more than producing a schematic and PCB. A successful design also needs to consider reliability, testability, manufacturability, EMC, component availability and the environment in which the product will eventually operate.

An Engineering Partner, Not Just a Design Service

One of the reasons I created ElectronPath was to offer the type of engineering support that is often difficult to obtain when a company does not need another full-time engineer but does need experienced technical input.

Sometimes that means supporting a complete development.

Sometimes it is simply spending a few hours reviewing a schematic before the first PCB is ordered.

And sometimes it means helping an engineering team investigate a problem that has already consumed far too much development time.

In each case, my objective is the same: understand the problem, provide clear technical reasoning and find a practical way forward.

Need Support With an Electronics Project?

If you are developing an electronic product, preparing a design for manufacture, dealing with an EMC issue or simply want an independent review before taking the next step, ElectronPath can help.

You do not need to have a perfectly defined scope before getting in touch.

Send me an overview of the project and the problem you are trying to solve, and we can determine the most appropriate next step.
